We Were on TV
Updated: Feb 2, 2020
On 14th Oct 2019, 45 members of Newport Probus Club formed part of the audience for ABC TV's acclaimed program Q&A. The ABC kindly arranged a bus which picked us up and delivered is back to Newport Surf Lifesaving Club. Q&A goes to air live, so our excursion started at 7:45pm and we were back at Newport at about 11:30pm. The professionalism of the ABC production team was eye-opening. The program's organisation is slick. The audience was introduced to the host for the night, Hamish McDonald, and the panellists well before the commencement of the live broadcast. The briefing on what would happen and what we could and could not do was done with flair and humour. When we entered the studio, we were entertained by a group playing light classical music. You don't see that during the broadcast. In the few weeks preceding, the ABC invited Probus members to submit questions. One of our members, Ken Lough, was selected and had the last question of the night. Now that he's a TV star, all members should endeavour to vote for Ken for the next Gold Logie. :) If you missed our club's big moment on the national broadcaster, the program is still available for streaming on ABC iView. (Go to www.abc.net.au, select iView and search for Q&A.) Members who went along enjoyed a unique experience at no cost. Yes, this was a FREE event.
